Why are the Galapagos Islands called Darwin Islands ?

The Galapagos group of Islands, situated near about 960 kms from the west coast of Ecuador are called Darwin Islands. I know it has a lot of distinct species those are habitating there, but is there any different reason to call those islands by the name of Darwin ?

RE: Why are the Galapagos Islands called Darwin Islands ?

Galapagos are the group of islands Charles Darwin visited during the voyage of the Beagle. Not all the islands are named after him, but just a small island which may not be even one square kilometer. It is situated north west of the main Galapagos Island group on the Wolf-Darwin Lineament that extends from the Galapagos Platform to the Galapagos Spreading Center, a mid ocean ridge separating the Nazca and Cocos tectonic plates. You can find more information related to Darwin and wolf islands on Wikipedia.

Charles Darwin was the first one to discover them and then research about the marine life and specimens of Evolution found there, maybe thats why the islands bear his name whenever mentioned...

Oh sure Samantha...
If you are planing to visit the place, i'll tell you, you'll be having a moment of your life that will be remembered always...

The place is alwys full with tourists and there are many travel agencies who guide you throughout your trip. Stay there is also very cheap and affordable. There are hotels who provide service for people of all budget ranges. So, you need not to worry about those things.
When I went there, I had my trip planned by Nature Galapagos & Ecuador, which is situated in Quito. You can always check their site for more details as I cannot tell you about the current rates and packages. I went in 2011.
