In February 1998, Erongo Plateau Camp was build. Oliver and Conny Kayser, owner of the
Camping site, build the
Camping site on their parent’s farm, Frederik and Rita van Alphen (Farm Eileen). With their experience
in Camping Conny & Oliver together with
Israel Mbudu constructed the
Camping site environmentally friendly that blends into the natural surroundings.
The
Camping ground is small and secluded, the perfect place to relax and de-stress. Visits should sooth the soul and relax the mind. Great care has been taken to ensure that our sites provide
for privacy.
Erongo Plateau Camp is situated
in the heart of the majestic Erongo mountain range near Omaruru. This is the gate to Damaraland where you find the famous desert elephants or ancient Himba tribe
in Kaokoveld. It is also within comfortable traveling distance to Swakopmund, Hentiesbay, Twyfelfontein, Etosha or even the capital city Windhoek.
The
Camping site has spotlessly clean showers (hot & cold) and toilets. You can buy wood at the camp. There are fireplaces, shade netting and every
site has its own water tap. We have no power supply, no swimming pool and no shop. You should therefore bring your own
Camping equipment and food. Eileen guest farm, 5km from the campsite, does not cater
for campers.
in Omaruru, 35km from the campsite, you can get al your fresh groceries at the Omaruru Spar.
They found a willing and hardworking man, named
Israel.
Israel started to build a road up the hill. Oliver and Conny only had time on weekends as they are working
in Windhoek.
Israel worked day
in and day out building the road, burrowing a 1km ditch
for the water pipeline. After a year, we at last had water at the campground. Then the building of water tanks and camp sites started. On weekends and on holidays we worked. We came on Friday nights from Windhoek, working the whole Saturday and half of Sunday at the campground. Every Sunday afternoons we drove back to Windhoek. Some indigenous plants were planted, but because of the really bad drought
in 1999, we almost lost al the plants to wild animals. New plants were bought and protected by wire.
in May 2000 we opened the campsite
for the first guests.
Israel came to the farm, only speaking his home language, Oshiwambo. He now speaks Afrikaans, but the English language is still a problem
for him. Please be patient and try to make him understand your needs. He is eager and willing to learn.
Today,
Israel Mbudu is managing and maintaining the
Camping site. His good service, neatness and friendly appearance give him a good reputation.
Pets are most welcome at Erongo Plateau Camp. Dogs may not roam around on their own. They have to stay with you or walk on a leash. We do not want your dog to roam all over the campground and visit other camper. You as the owner must take full responsibility of your pet. Please obey strict to the rules as we still want to allow other visitors to bring their pets.
