The Roman Catholic Basilica of Notre-Dame was constructed between 1824 - 1829, to a neo-gothic design by James O'Donnell, an Irish-American Protestant from New York. Work began on the Basilica's colourful interior - designed by Victor Bourgeau - in 1874 and was completed in 1880.
