It's local and gritty so don't expect the level of attentiveness at higher end touristy venues. This is an authentic Japanese Onsen, complete with black water. The locals may look at you but just do as they do and enjoy the experience. The venue isn't big and there are only a couple of pools but it's cheap (approx ¥750). Tattoos aren't welcome and I assume it's not kiddy friendly.

A bit old, but very cheap natural hot spring. They have a variety of baths, including black water which is famous in the area.

Really neat black water onsen! It's a rather small facility, but it's inexpensive and in a peaceful area.
Completely enclosed; would've preferred it to be open air/no ceiling.

This is a lovely off beat trip to the real Japan. Away from the usual touristy places..
A nice friendly place to relax with spa facilities that contain minerals, renowned for its dark as night insensitive water, established since 1937. They are said to have healing powers for knees backs and circulation. We have been recommend by time out magazine and pleasantly surprised at the friendliness of the staff and staff. Theres also a bar karaoke and restaurant upstairs.
It's a few stops from central Tokyo takes about 45mins but well worth the priceless experience.
