Square of Matera, in the past Kannulējēju and Valnu street corner is a sign to the point where ever ended the Medieval ramparts. Duke Jacob's building up in the ditch water was surrounded by ramparts, which, over time aizsērēja and hot weather began to feel sick smell. German Jelgava inhabitants of this place was called the "Faulen Teich" (smelly pond), but entered the Latvian name Paul pond. When the 20th century in power decided to demolish the old fortifications and ditches fill up, removed and Paula pond. Instead, Nicholas built a church and set up a square. Nicholas Church in the last war it was burnt down, and then demolished.
