We had to take insurance of 73USD a day cause our booking didn't have any insurance included. Are they serious?

Europcar does not respect bookings!
We booked a car one month in advance. When we went to Fiesta americana to pick it up, the employee just told us there was an issue with our booking. They had no cars left. So, why are they letting people book if they do not have enough cars?
I booked it on the 21st of November. They suggested me to join a waiting list giving priority for people who booked on the 18th of November.
The worst is that they waited until we came by the office to inform us about the lousy service. They could not even called us before so we could have changed our plans or look for another dealer.
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE.

The experience I had at this rental car place made think I was in Tijuana. I had made a reservation through Expedia for a midsize car. The reservation clearly stated that liability insurance was included in the price. The clerk told me the city of Merida mandated additional insurance of $34/day (US Dollars). When I told him I had rented cars from other companies in Merida and they didn't have that requirement, he changed the story to "it's company policy". Then, when I told him my credit card covered all the additional insurance requirement, he said I needed to produce proof of that. I produced the Statement of Benefits of my credit card that clearly stated the coverage. He then - after making a phone call - told me that was not satisfactory. The statement from the credit card company had to be personalized, it had to have my name on it... It was just too clear that he didn't want to rent me the car unless I paid for the bloated additional insurance. He probably would have made a nice commission on it. So I moved on... I dealt with a few other car rental companies in Merida, they were all better. I recommend against these guys.
