Tacoma Narrows Bridge(s). The second and third bridges are pictured. The original narrows bridge, nicknamed "Galloping Gertie", developed severe movement in the wind. The bridge was opened to the public on July 1, 1940, and dramatically collapsed into Puget Sound on November 7 of the same year in a wind of only 40 mph. - Mary Bridge Heliport photo gallery at Panoramio
